Nestled at Porte de Bellerive on the picturesque shores of Lake Geneva, this contemporary residence has undergone a breathtaking transformation. Originally built in the 1970s, the home has been completely reimagined by Atelier BE Architectes, turning a traditional layout into an open, light-filled sanctuary. Here, natural and artificial light come together to shape an inviting and luxurious home.
The lighting design scheme, crafted by EU Design Director Sabina Fiorina, seamlessly enhances the architectural beauty of the space. Her vision introduced a contemporary aesthetic, blending luxurious materials with glass to create a distinctive, modern identity.
Sabrina’s approach embraced the interplay between natural light by day and a sophisticated lighting strategy by night. One of the key challenges was making the most of the expansive windows, which flood the interiors with daylight but become reflective barriers after sunset. To address this, strategically positioned architectural luminaires were installed to balance and extend the visual flow of the space. On the terrace, recessed downlights were subtly integrated to frame the garden view and create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living.
Central to the design is a striking multi-level contemporary glass chandelier that cascades through the three floors, elegantly uniting the levels into one cohesive space. This centerpiece is complemented by concealed Contour HD27 lighting, which highlights textures, illuminates ceilings, and creates bold linear accents along the stairwell walls, further enhancing the architectural flow.
In the living room, a serene and inviting ambiance is achieved through layered lighting. A concealed Contour HD27 LED strip in the coffer introduces a soft, diffused glow from above, while Vorsa 40 spotlights provide focused illumination over the coffee table, creating a focus to the centre of the room. Integrated joinery lighting adds depth and visual interest, creating a harmonious balance of function and aesthetic.
The open-plan kitchen and dining room feature a carefully zoned lighting scheme designed for flexibility. Sleek pendants above the kitchen island enhance the modern aesthetic, while functional ceiling downlights ensure practical task lighting for the countertops and subtly wash the kitchen cabinets. Concealed linear lighting in the dining area ceiling introduces an elegant, understated solution that enhances the room’s versatility.
In the master bedroom, the lighting is soft and discreet, prioritising comfort and tranquility. A Contour LED strip concealed behind the headboard casts a gentle uplight, while another strip in the ceiling coffer enhances the room’s relaxing ambiance. A pair of Vorsa 40 spotlights at the end of the bed adds subtle accents to complete the layered design.
The master bathroom continues this layered approach with concealed Contour LED strips integrated into shadow gaps and niches, creating a soothing glow that highlights the shower area. Wall lights paired with Vorsa 40 spotlights illuminate the vanity, offering a perfect balance of task lighting and ambiance.
With meticulous attention to detail, this lighting design not only highlights the home’s architectural features but also enhances its functionality and luxurious atmosphere, creating an exceptional living experience at every turn. The result is a home where light—not just as a practical element but as a defining feature—invites a sense of warmth, elegance, and connection with its natural surroundings.
