A foundation of testing and compliance

Our commitment to quality and safety forms the backbone of the John Cullen design philosophy. Each luminaire we create reflects meticulous attention to detail, rigorous testing, and strict compliance with industry standards. Here’s how we ensure our products meet the highest standards for performance, reliability, and safety. 

All John Cullen branded luminaires are conceptualised and designed in the UK by our dedicated Product Development Team. To ensure safety and reliability, all our luminaires undergo independent testing in accordance with IEC / BS EN 60598-1, the international standard for electrical luminaire safety requirements. 

We also test against the applicable Part 2 standards of IEC / BS EN 60598, which address the unique safety and performance criteria for different types of luminaires. This comprehensive approach ensures that every product we offer not only meets but exceeds the expected safety benchmarks for its intended use.

John Cullen luminaires are subject to extensive testing by accredited and audited laboratories. This independent testing process ensures full compliance with IEC / BS EN 60598-1 and typically takes up to eight weeks to complete. 

The testing includes procedures like IP (Ingress Protection) and IK (Impact Protection) assessments to evaluate the durability and suitability of our luminaires in various conditions. Additionally, all light sources are independently tested to meet the requirements of IEC / BS EN 62031, the standard for LED modules. 

While self-certification by our in-house engineers is an option, we believe that independent testing by expert technologists using specialised equipment is vital. This extra step ensures that our products are not only compliant but also provide our clients with the peace of mind that comes from knowing our luminaires are safe, reliable, and fit for purpose.

As proud members of the Lighting Industry Association (LIA) and its Quality Assurance Scheme (LIAQA), we are committed to maintaining the highest standards in product quality and compliance. 

The LIAQA program, developed by industry experts, focuses specifically on lighting products and encompasses criteria for product acceptance and manufacturing process quality. By meeting these rigorous standards, we can demonstrate that our systems effectively address product compliance and quality control.  

This third-party validation not only affirms our dedication to excellence but also reinforces our ability to deliver products that meet stringent safety and performance standards.
